2008 Western Adventure
Day 32 - July 21, 2008
I took care of my chores this
morning and headed over to San Leandro after lunch. It was a
little early to drop in on my friends, because they still a some
time at work, so I found a hotel very close to them and got settled
in. By the time I got everything organized it was about time
for me to give my friends a call and see if it was a good time to
drop in on them. I didn't give them a lot of notice, but I
never know where I'm going to be at any given time, which is the
sign of a good trip. They were ready and I headed over to
their place. They still had a little work to do, but we were
able to talk in between phone calls and other work related items. My
friends, Dave and Joanne Walter run a huge storage facility, which
is electronically monitored. Their office looks like the
control room at the space center.
They
finally finished up and we were able to go in the house, which is
right on the property....very convenient. They live a
beautiful old house that had bee completely remodeled before they
moved in. Massive 9 foot windows and 12 foot ceilings, and
huge rooms. They've actually got it pretty nice there.
The first thing the greeted me when I walked into the house was
their two brown and white dachshunds. The are definitely an
effective alarm system, but they finally calmed down one the got
used to me. We sat and talked, and reminisced quite a bit
before we decided to get something to eat. Joanne suggested
several places, and then we finally went where she wanted to go,
which turned out to be an excellent choice. Dave and I had
some man food....a huge rib eye steak and fully loaded baked potato.
One of the best I've ever had. We talked some more before
finally left with a very full stomach. Did I say that Joanne
had halibut? It looked very good and she said it was great.
After we got back to Dave and
Joanne's place, Joanne made us some strawberry shortcake sprinkled
with blueberries.....yum!!! We talked until the wee hours, and
finally called it a night. I went back to my hotel and they
scurried into bed.
It was a marvelous day, but I
was so busy talking that I didn't take any pictures, except the one
above.
